The Government of Russia is not planning to continue the project of building the South Stream pipeline, said the Russian minister of energy, Alexander Novak, on Saturday, September 3, Blic reports, citing the agency Srna.

– There are no negotiations about Bulgaria and no negotiations on the South Stream – Novak said to the press at the Vladivostok Eastern Economic Forum.

The project of building the South Stream pipeline was suspended by Bulgaria at the request of the European Union in June 2014, due to not being in line with the EU’s Third Energy Package, which forbids companies from owning gas and managing pipelines.

President Vladimir Putin officially called off the project in December 2014, Sputnik reminds.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said in August that Sofia and Moscow might restart the negotiations on the South Stream.

As an answer, Putin requested legal guarantees regarding the implementation of the project from the European Commission in order for the works to continue.

The second Eastern Economic Forum was held on September 2 and 3 in Vladivostok. The forum was attended by delegates from China, Japan, South Korea, India, Vietnam, Australia, USA, Singapore and other countries.
