The manufacturers who offer sugar beet to one of the four sugar plants of company "Sunoko", which is a part of German "Nordzucker", will be paid the purchase price of 2,700 RSD per ton - Timo Miler, member of the administrative board of company "Sunoko", pointed out yesterday (February 7, 2008) in Kovačica.
He pointed out that it could be good message to agricultural manufacturers to start producing that culture. Speking about export potentials of Serbia, in regard to European sugar market, Miler said that our country had the open door for export, as well as that, thanks to the potentials of Vojvodina, it could become the leading manufacturer in the region.
- Production of sugar in European Union and in the world is getting smaller. Thus, for example, Spain, Italy, Greece, as well as the countries from our surroundings, are stopping their production of sugar, while Brasil, as the largest exporter, is turning towards use of sugar cane for production of bio-ethanol. The only obstacle that Serbia has to export sugar is the quote in amount of 185,000 tons a year, stipulated by EU. However, through joint lobbying from the state and sugar manufacturers in Brussels, that barrier could be overcome - Miler claims.
