The first four teams from the four strongest European football leagues will be guaranteed the participation in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League starting with the 2018/19 season, reported the Union of European Football Associations on August 26.

The current system guarantees three spots in the group stage to the Spanish, German and English leagues, whereas their fourth-placed teams will go into playoffs to enter the most elite European competition.

The fourth best league, the Italian one, has two guaranteed spots so far, and the third-placed team will go into playoffs.
