Fabrika Akumulatora Sombor (Car Battery Factory Sombor) in bankruptcy, which operates under Farmakom MB Sabac, is looking for a buyer, and, as eKapija learns, an American and a Russian company are interested in buying the Sombor factory.

– A large car battery producer, the USA-based Exida, has shown interest through its representative in Serbia, and there’s also been an unofficial inquiry from a Russian company – says the trustee in bankruptcy, Predrag Ljubovic, for eKapija.

The estimated value of the bankruptcy debtor as a legal entity is EUR 25,020, 000, and the starting price at the public bidding to be held on October 21 in Sombor will by 50% of the amount, i.e. EUR 12,510,000.

– A long enough period has been given to potential buyers to assess their interest in this business. The companies which have shown interest are not yet serious candidates. Only those who buy the documentation and make a deposit can be deemed serious candidates – Ljubovic says.

The deposit for taking part in the public bidding is EUR 5 million, and the most valuable property of the Sombor factory consists of production halls, office buildings, warehouses and undeveloped building land.

Farmakom MB became the owner of FAS in 2006 and the operations were very successful until 2011. That year, it exported 10,000 car batteries and employed 820 workers. In 2012, it began to crumble.

The factory went into the hands of lessees twice, the last of which, DEM Helos, ran FAS at 30% of its capacities and with around a hundred workers. A little over a month ago, the lease was terminated by the decision of the board of creditors, but the lessee, as we learn, hasn’t yet left the production facility, which is why a court procedure has been initiated.

The trade union earlier emphasized that leasing only meant prolonging the agony and that the factory needed to be sold at a public bidding to a partner capable of putting the capacities into operation.
