Belgrade-based photographer Dusan Stojancevic has spent 15 years experimenting with a novel artistic process of taking incredible photographs, BBC writes in the article “The World in a Drop of Water”.

The article, which took a prominent place at the BBC portal this weekend deals with a special type of photography which Stojancevic has been developing out of the public eye and, more importantly, without using Photoshop.

– I wanted to do something different. I was trying to think about how to do something inventive – Stojancevic says.

He went for macro photography, but didn’t take photos of insects and flowers. Instead, he turned his lens to water droplets reflecting city landmarks from all over the world.

– The imaginative project began when he focused his camera on his hometown of Belgrade, where he quickly discovered that he’d stumbled across a point of view that nobody had thought of before – BBC writes.

The British broadcaster calls his work stunning: “Barcelona’s La Sagrada Familia faded into a dreamy haze, glimmering in the soft, watery light; the magnificence of Istanbul’s Blue Mosque was reflected tenfold in each water droplet. And finally, in the crowning glory of the project, Stojancevic captured the spirit of New York City through its soaring architecture, with shots of the Empire State Building, the Flatiron Building and Brooklyn Bridge shrunk into the tiny droplets.”

The name of the project is Microcosmos, and Stojancevic had been practically hiding it for years, until he decided recently that the time was right for it due to benefits of a digital age.

So far, he has captured four cities in droplets – Barcelona, Istanbul, New York and Belgrade, and he plans to continue with the project.
