Toll to be more expensive by 10% - Decision prepared, waiting for new government’s signature

One of the first decisions of the new Government of Serbia will be to increase the highway toll by 10%, Blic learns.

This unpopular decision, which was supposed to have been reached back in February, but has been delayed due to the election, is a necessity for Roads of Serbia, since the prices haven’t changed since February 23, 2008. According to their estimates, the change in prices should increase their annual road maintenance income by RSD 1.8 billion. A Blic source from the government says that the decision is ready, but that they waited for the new government to form.

– The toll has to be modified so that roads could be maintained. While the toll prices were being kept at the same level, the prices of materials, energy sources and equipment used to maintain highways and other roads increased. This has almost brought in question the possibility of maintaining roads in Serbia, which is why this is a necessary measure – the Blic source says.

According to the new charge rates which Roads of Serbia have proposed to the government, the toll on, for example, the Belgrade-Nis section will jump from RSD 730 to RSD 800. Those who intend to use the Belgrade-Sid highway will have to pay RSD 370 instead of RSD 340, and the toll on the Belgrade-Subotica section will jump from RSD 290 to RSD 320.
