Largest aircraft in the world presented

Airlander 10, the largest aircraft in the world, an airplane/zeppelin hybrid, left the hangar in Bedfordshire in Great Britain for the first time on Sunday, BBC reports.

The aircraft is 92 meters long, which makes it 18 meters longer that the largest passenger plane, and is worth GBP 25 million. The aircraft is named 'Martha Gwyn' after the wife of the chairman of Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV), the British company which produced it.

The testing of the motors, generators and other systems was carried out last week. The date of the first flight hasn't yet been set, BBC reports.

HAV has been working on a prototype for nine years after the American army was left without funds for the development of a surveillance aircraft. The company emphasizes that Airlander 10 will have multiple functions, such as surveillance, communication, freight transport, humanitarian missions and passenger transport.
