Global tablet market reducing in size – 38.7 million devices sold in three months

The global shipment of tablets dropped again in the second quarter this year, according to the data by the International Data Corporation (IDC).

From April till June 2016, a total of 38.7 million tablets were shipped in the world, which is 12.3% less than the 44.1 million shipped in the same period last year, the research company reported.

The sales of tablets, according to IDC, have been dropping since 2015, when the activity in the once very busy market started slowing down.

The operating system Android was installed on 65% tablets shipped in the second quarter, whereas iOS, which was installed on 26% of the shipped computers, took the second place. The rest of the tablets ran on Microsoft Windows.

Apple maintained its position of the leading tablet manufacturer in the world in the second quarter, having delivered ten million iPad devices, thanks to which its market share was 25.9%. Samsung took the second place, despite a drop in tablet shipment by 24.5% relative to the corresponding period of 2015 to around six million units.
