Monkey business - chimpanzee smarter than students

Five-year-old chimpanzee Ajumu has won on the "short-term memory test" by "answering" correctly on 80% of the tasks. Students are on the second, third and all other places to the ninth, with 40% of correct answers.

Their task was to repeat numbers that appeared and stayed on the screen for about 2 tens of seconds each.

Scientist Tetsuro Matsuzava was in the search for the cause of this defeat of the people by monkeys. The only explanation he found lies in the fact that people have reduced ability for short-term memory because it is situated in the part of the brain where voluminous language memory is settled.

Reproduction of the memory for quickly shown images, pictures, contours, which is necessary for such tests, was discovered during the tests with small children, but that ability disappears in time.
