The number of accidents in parking and maneuvering has increased by over 30% in the past 10 years. According to the research carried out by the insurance company Allianz in 2015, over 40% of all car accidents end in material damage, and one of the main causes is poor visibility from within the vehicle.

– When people can’t handle the parking themselves, that’s when our technology steps in – said Dr Dirk Hoheisel, board member of Robert Bosch GmbH.

With the help of automatized parking, a car can slot into the parking space at the click of a button and without causing accidents. The driver can control the process through a smartphone, even from outside the vehicle. Bosch takes a step further with the Home Zone system, which should be ready for production in 2019. The system can guide the car to parking spaces up to 100 meters away and maneuver it into the space.

Home Zone is a partially automatized function which the driver still needs to monitor. It is intended for recurring parking maneuvers at home or into assigned parking garage spaces. A special feature of the technology is the fact that Home Zone is capable of learning and saving individual driving maneuvers. Once it saves them, the system can perform them unassisted, and the driver only needs to press the button.
