The Ada Bridge still without an exploitation permit – Bicycle elevators, which cost EUR 956,000, still not working

The Ada Bridge hasn't received an exploitation permit even four years after it opened, and the reason is that the bicycle elevators are still not working. More than EUR 956,000 was invested in the so far unused elevators.

The cyclists, who are used to the 'out of order' sign, have long since stopped hoping to shorten the Belgrade Fair-New Belgrade route. The elevators at the bottom of Radnicka Interchange, next to the Stenka restaurant, are locked and out of order, as are those on the other side. Due to this, the cyclists are forced to circle around the access routes.

The condition for putting the elevators on the Ada Bridge into operation is an exploitation permit for the entire structure, including the elevators, the Belgrade Land Development Public Agency says.

The Agency has submitted the request for the issuing of an exploitation permit for the bridge over Sava to the competent ministry. Following the issuing of the permit, the structure will be put in charge of the city administration, which will prescribe the manner of using the elevators.

The public procurement procedure for an additional servicing of bicycle elevators was completed several months ago, as was the expert report on their being in order. This was necessary for getting a fire safety permit and submitting the request for an exploitation permit. The reason why the Ada bridge doesn't have the complete documentation is that this project is not completed. This means that a whole decade could pass before the elevators start working.

The elevator on the New Belgrade side alone cost EUR 353,119, while EUR 235,400 was set aside for the one on the side of Ada Ciganlija. In addition to that, the shaft on the Cukarica side cost EUR 368,301.
