American "Alltech" plans construction of bio-refinery in Senta

International bio-technological company "Alltech" represented yesterday (January 16, 2008) the project for construction of bio-refinery in Senta where bio-ethanol would be produced. The owner of the company, Pierce Lions, said at the meeting with the President of the Executive Council of Vojvodina, Bojan Pajtić, and the Minister of Environment Protection of Serbia, Saša Dragin, that 70% of production of bio-ethanol would come from corn and 30% from cellulose.

According to the announcement that followed the meeting, this is the new technology for production of energy from the renewable sources. With the construction of bio-refinery in Senta, where "Alltech" is present for six years as "Alltech Fermin", Europe would get the first factory of that kind.

Lions claims that the technological level in Serbia, which is very rich with cereals and fertile soil, would be raised to a higher level and that the construction of bio-refinery would contribute to revitalization of the whole agriculture.

According to his words, the company deals with new technologies in production of bioethanol and the first bio-refinery in Kentucky, where bioethanol will also be produced from cellulose, will be put into operation in February 2008.

Minister Dragin said that any "green technology" was welcome to Serbia and he pointed out that the state was preparing some benefits for investments in such technologies that ensure preservation of environment and sustainable development.
