Pretty Group from Bangladesh interested in Sombor – A textile factory with 1,100 employees planned
The Municipal Council members have decided, after receiving a letter of intent by the company from Bangladesh, to form an expert team which should prepare a feasibility study for the disposal of public land in the Sombor industrial zone in blocks 102 and 103 by direct agreement and without compensation, which has already provoked numerous public reactions.
The company intends to invest EUR 16 million in the project, install machinery of the latest technology in 15,000 m2 halls, employ 1,100 workers and make an annual turnover of EUR 26 million that way.
The company's plan is to export the entire production, primarily to the European market, and the letter openly states that the reason for the investment is that the structure of earnings in Serbia is currently lower than in the neighboring countries, as well as the Government of Serbia's reasonable support to greenfield investments.
One of Pretty Group's demands pertains to operations within the system of free zones, so it is expected of the competent authorities in Sombor to provide this type of status to the future Bangladesh clothing factory.
Investors from China, who have already had several official talks with the local authorities, are also interested in the Sombor industrial zone. More precisely, LongYing Investment Management – LIM conglomerate which is the parent company to over 150 Shanghai companies organized through the chamber system, intends to invest in an industrial park which would initially spread over around 15 hectares, with the possibility of further expansion.
