The uncertainty which has followed in the wake of the referendum on Great Britain's exit from the European Union is the greatest danger to the global economy, estimated the International Monetary Fund on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
- We see the current uncertainty as probably the main risk for the world economy – stated the Director of the Communications Department at IMF Gerry Rice, who invited the European leaders to take decisive measures.
The EU and Great Britain need to commence difficult negotiations about new economic relations, and one of the question still open concerns the future British approach to the unified European economic market.
The British automotive industry, worried about Brexit consequences, asked to keep its access to the unified European market and its freedom to employ foreigners in order to continue operating.
Rice said that the post-Brexit period could have a negative short-term impact on the economic growth on a global level, not just in Great Britain and Europe.
- Political leaders must be ready to take decisive measures to try to mitigate this – said Rice, not specifying which measures those might be.
