The Government of Serbia decided on Thursday, June 30, 2016, to keep the import taxes for milk and dairy products from the countries of the European Union in the next six months, stated the adviser to Prime Minister Dragan Glamocic.
- The milk import taxes have been extended primarily to protect and support small producers who are not that competitive – said Glamocic for Beta following the session of the Government.
He also reminded that in Serbia over 97% small farms with around ten cows each are producing milk.
The Government of Serbia introduced the milk import taxes in June 2015 – 10 to 20 dinars per liter of milk and 10 to 30 dinars for fermented milk products. By the decision of December 30, 2015, the protective measures were extended by six months, and they were supposed to expire on June 30.
In the meantime, the protective measures were canceled for certain types of sour cream.
