Foreign currency savings in year 2007 were increased by record 1.4 billion EUR, which is 44.2% more than in 2006. In that way, total amount of foreign currency savings of the citizens in Serbia reached 4.8 billion EUR. This was announced yesterday (January 8, 2008) by the National Bank of Serbia.

Of total of 3,712,933 saving parties, 68.4% are fixed-term deposits, most of which are one-year term deposits. Deposits of up to 10,000 EUR represent 22.2% of total number of saving parties, but the deposits between 50,000 and 500,000 EUR also reached that percentage last year.

- Increase in foreign currency savings, with the average daily growth of over 5.8m EUR in 2007 and significant improvement of term deposit structure, confirms that the citizens' savings are becoming more and more important element of the domestic accumulation as the source of credit activities of the banks - NBS estimated.
