Milk import taxes to remain until the end of 2016? - EU threatens to block Serbian fruit
The Government of Serbia has prepared the decision on the extension of taxes on the import of milk and dairy products until the end of the year, reports Blic.
Nevertheless, the Government has still not adopted the decision because there are indications from the EU that, if the taxes remain in effect, Brussels might take countermeasures towards temporarily banning the import of Serbian seasonal fruit, which might cost Serbia EUR 325 million, which are the projected earnings from the export of frozen and fresh fruit.
- We are trying to find a compromise solution, that is, to offer the EU some kind of compensation in the form of elimination of customs duties not related to agriculture, but to an industrial product less important to Serbia – says the Belgrade newspaper's source.
They haven't received the official response from the Ministry of Agriculture.
