Air Serbia’s airplane Airbus A330, which set off from Belgrade on the morning of June 23, has landed at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The aircraft was welcomed at the airport with water cannons and a digital billboard which said “JFK Airport welcomes Air Serbia”.

The mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali, the director of Air Serbia Dane Kondic and Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony in New York, reports the RTS correspondent.

This is the first flight on the newly established direct Belgrade-New York line.

Flights to New York will be carried out five times a week, and they were given the numbers YU-500 and YU-501, the same ones used by JAT for its direct flights to New York 24 years ago.

The airline company Air Serbia is the only company in the area organizing flights to the USA.

The preparations for the first direct flight lasted a year and a half.
