The Russian-Serbian humanitarian center will build a base at the Ecka airport, though not a military base, but a training base, say Bojan Glamocija and Vjaceslav Vlasenko, co-directors of the center which exclusively provides help to Serbia and its citizens in emergencies.

- There is a great need for the training of civil protection units and professional firefighter and rescue units. It was inevitable that this idea would come about, since there are no centers for the training of such units or the volunteer firefighter departments whose membership numbers in hundreds of thousands – said Glamocija.

He added that the Zrenjanin camp would only deal with risks on the territory of Vojvodina and said that there were great risks there at oil facilities, NIS, Gazprom, Srbijagas, a huge rubber factory in Zrenjanin, a lot of chemical factories...

Vjeceslav Vlasenko said that “each humanitarian center which is supposed to deal with problems must have a communications center. In Nis, we have everything. First the Russians de-mined the Nis territory after the NATO bombing, and then we saw that Nis was a European center, with an airport, quality roads from the south to the north, from Macedonia to Vojvodina, a very good location”.

- The same is true of Ecka, it has a railroad, roads, an airport. It's a good location for a humanitarian, that is, a training center. As for barracks, the army always places them in the most convenient locations, but I don't believe that in this case the barracks can be used in the future. It would be best to build a new training center in Vojvodina as a branch, because the distance from Nis to Belgrade is 250 km, and the distance between Belgrade and Zrenjanin is less than 100 km, which is fine – he explained.

Vlasenko denied the speculations that an army base will be built. - We have opened our door to all delegations, foreigners, UNHCR, UNDP. The door is open, there's no security, nor any checks at the entrance. The same is being said of the Vojvodina base, but that too is empty talk – he said.
