Collective Farm "Sjenička ovca" exported 15 tons of wool to Great Britain

- Collective farm "Sjenička ovca" from the village of Trijebine near Sjenica exported 15 tons of wool last week to Great Britain, and another 60 tons will be exported after the New Year holidays - said the manager of the collective farm Edo Rahić.

He said that these deliveries were part of the long-term contract with the company from Bradford, which anticipates export of all wool produced on the Peštar plateau where over 25,000 sheep are raised.

The wool is bought at price of 31 RSD per kilogram and the collective farm takes perennial stocks of this product from stock breeders.

According to the words of Rahić, the wool from the Peštar plateau is used in Great Britain mainly for production of carpets.

- The wool that is produced in these regions is not of such good quality to be used for production of apparel in England and that is why we can not get higher purchase price - said Rahić.

Since it was founded three years ago, Collective Farm "Sjenička ovca" has exported over 100 tons of wool to Great Britain and it plans to organize purchase of wool in other parts of Serbia as well.

Many years ago, wool on the Peštar plateau was used for mass production of clothing, carpets and covers.
