(Aleksandar Vucic) The electoral assembly of SPP unanimously elected Aleksandar Vucic as the party leader on Saturday, May 28. The assembly, which elected the new leadership, was attended by 3,862 of the 4,000 delegates.
At the assembly’s beginning, the leader of the Serbian Progressive Party said that he believed that the SPP had placed Serbia above the party’s interests. This was the first assembly following the snap parliamentary election in which the party won the majority vote. Vucic said that the party had shown that it had been the most responsible factor in the country and the most responsible political factor in the previous period.
- Courage is what sets apart serious political parties from those who enter the political life briefly, for their own gain – noticed Vucic.
He said that the SPP had inherited a heavy burden, and that after decades of deterioration, someone had to tell the citizens that “painkillers can’t improve one’s health” and that public finances cannot be healed that way.
The SPP did just that, said Vucic, adding, however, that it hadn’t been done the best way, which was discussed at the closed session of the assembly.
