The President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic has announced that he has decided, after the consultations he has had with the parliamentary parties, to give the mandate to form the Serbian Government to the president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) Aleksandar Vucic.

Nikolic explained the decision by saying that Vucic had persuaded him that he had the majority for forming the Government.

After all the talks, only the president of SPP presented the program for the Government’s conduct and its priorities. Everyone else was obviously aware that SPP had won the majority vote – said Nikolic.

Today, Nikolic had consultations about forming the new government with the representatives of 11 parties and coalitions who have MPs in the National Assembly. This Thursday, he will have consultations with the SPP leader, whose electoral list won 131 of 250 parliament seats in the April 24 snap elections.

The final deadline for constituting the National Assembly is June 4, from which date there will be a three-month deadline for forming the new government.
