SBB put main optical network in Vojvodina in operation


President of Executive Council of Vojvodina, Bojan Pajtić, put the main optical network of company “Serbian Cable Network” (SBB) in operation yesterday (December 17, 2007) in Novi Sad. This network connects all municipalities on the territory of the Province.
According to Pajtić, this network is of great significance to the citizens, enterprises and administration in Vojvodina because it will enable quicker and high-quality electronic networking, exchange of information and provision of various services.
General Manager of SBB, Dragan Šolak, said that putting of “special information highway” into operation represented the end of the first phase of construction of 3.5m EUR worth of optical network in Vojvodina, which links Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Vrbas, Vršac andPančevo.
These cities could practically have digital television already now, and the network itself enables the quickest possible flow of cable internet and other telecommunications services.
The main optical cables are laid along the banks of the canals and rivers, which was agreed with Public Waterpower Engineering Company "Vode Vojvodine" in a special contract and, in return, all its facilities along the way will be connected for free.
