Ten years of cooperation between Pirot and Bulgarian town Montana

Municipality of Pirot and Bulgarian town of Montana are celebrating this year 10th anniversary of cooperation in cross-border projects. So far 11 projects funded by the EU pre-accession funds have been completed and Pirot has implemented projects totaling EUR 2 m.

Head of the Office for Local Economic Development of Pirot Marija Djosic told to Beta agency that cooperation started in 2006 with the construction of a technology park in Montana and then the opening of the Office for Local Economic Development of Pirot. These two municipalities applied for the reconstruction of medieval fortress and the purchase of equipment for the maternity hospital in Pirot .

President of of Montana municipality, Zlatko Zivkov said two municipalities are the first when it comes to border cooperation between Bulgaria and Serbia because they implemented projects and it were not just "mere words ". The Mayor of Pirot, Vladan Vasic, said that economic cooperation of two towns started as well.
