German state-owned railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced on Wednesday March 16, 2016, that it ended last year with a net loss for the first time in 12 years, stating as the main reason write-offs in dealing with the transport of cargo.

DB ended 2015 with a net loss of EUR 1.3 billion for the first time since 2003, due to the extraordinary write-off in dealing with transport of cargo totaling EUR 1.7 billion. Additional pressure on business costs was caused by train drivers' strike in the first half of the year.

For the first time, revenues exceeded EUR 40 billion (40.5), which is 1.9 % more than they were in 2014 . The department of transport to distant destinations they increased by 2.2 % to 132 million euros while DB Regio recorded 2.5 million passengers which is 1.2% less than the year.
