Matijevic revives Zabalj-based sugar plant - Harvest on 5.000 ha contracted

Zabalj-based Sajkaska will be processing sugar beet this season, since the harvest of Agrar owned by Serbian businessman Petar Matijevic, which is a multi-year strategic partner with the sugar plant, contracted planting of these crops on 5,000 ha.

Head of Agrar, Zoran Matijevic, said that 3,500 ha will be sown on arable land of cooperatives in entire Vojvodina plain, while 1,500 ha of Agrar contracted with subcontractors and that harvest is beginning this weekend.

A spokesman for Hellenic, Hristos Aleksopulos said contracting with farmers is nearing an end and that it is expected 15,000 ha to be contracted and Greek company remains at the local market.

- Greek company will this year also make sure that Serbia is export of sugar to foreign markets and that local farmers have secure profits because Hellenic provides incentives depending on what they want: we provide seed, fertilizer and fuel.
