EU does not want Chinese in Zelezara due to their low steel prices

The European Commission has its standard rules. They expect every member country and every country on the way to Euro-integrations should offer equal treatment for all market participants. It applies these rules on all members and will apply them in Serbia as well, the minister of finance, Dusan Vujovic, said when answering to question on reasons why Serbia must ask for a permission of EU to sell Zelezara Smederevo to Chinese investor.

Previously, prime minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said that privatization of Zelezara is nearing an end but that it outcome will depend on EU consent. He explained it with the fact that” due to governmental support and other questions Serbia has” EU permit is necessary.
