Belgians (not) to have 100-storey building built in Belgrade

There is another round of famous race underway – who will build the highest scyscraper on the continent? Belgian company Besix as constructors, Montons partner as architects and Masera holdings as work organizers, want to erect their attractive building in Belgrade, in Block 26, accross the road from the Palace of Federation. The highest spot of the facility is still a secret, but, according to some announcements, projected height is about 340 m.

Nebojša Mišić from Masera Holdings reacted tumultously on the announcement of the main architect of Belgrade, Đorđe Bobić, who said that the Belgian had given up the work. He explained us in the letter of May 2, 2005, that they expressed their interest in that investment very clearly. That company is building another facility in Dubai, of which height is 710 ! The Belgians prepared preliminary project, model, presentation/animation, they are just working on the financial study, and then the rumour appears that they gave up. They expect very concrete steps from the Belgrade authorities and information on whether to wait for the tender in Spring 2006, whether they need to prepare some more documentation .... The Belgians asked the City to prepare its land-utilization plan that would enable construction of such building.

Construction of scyscraper would cost about €250m. It would have about 100 floors and 110,000 square meters of useful space, as well as 1,600 garage places. There would be WTC – world trade center in the building, and maybe even Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, but, unofficially, the negotiations with the latter are still underway. In the upper part of the scyscraper will be 5-star hotel and 280 rooms. The building would have 32 elevators and “the sky restaurant” on the top.
