The Government of Great Britain has invested about GBP 1 million (EUR 1.3 million) in the project "Assistance to Serbia in Renovations in the Aftermath of Floods - Kolubara Mining Basin," under which 24 embankments on the rivers of the Kolubara basin are renovated, British Ambassador Denis Keefe said today in Lazarevac.

He noted at a ceremony marking the completion of that project, which was attended by Serbian Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic, that 24 embankments on the rivers Kolubara, Pestan, Lukavica and Turija were renovated under the project.

According to him, floods in this area caused damages estimated at EUR 2.6 million, endangering even coal production in Kolubara Mining Basin, which accounts for 75% of all the coal produced in Serbia and about 50% of electricity.

- This project is a confirmation of strength of bilateral relations between Serbia and Great Britain - Keefe assessed.
