Niš-Sofia highway section opened – tender for construction of road to Bulgarian border to follow

Niš-Sofia highway section, from Niš to Niška Banja, in which 31m EUR were invested, was opened on November 2, 2007. Opening this part of highway 14 km long, Minister of Infrastructure, Velimir Ilić, said that that section was the first in Serbia that had required building documentation.

Ilić announced that the tender for continuation of construction of highway to Bulgarian border would be announced by the end of the month, for which another 390m EUR will have to be set aside.

Construction of highway is divided into two phases, Minister pointed out, so that the value of the section of 28 km through Sićevac gorge is about 140m EUR, while construction of 55 km from the gorge to the border requires investment of 250m EUR. Ilić announced that the tender for continuation of construction of highway from Leskovac to Macedonian border would be announced soon.
