The German railway company warns that direct international lines between the members of the European Union won't be sustainable in case of termination of the Schengen agreement.

Reudiger Grube, the head of the German railway company, noted that the system of open borders within the EU allows passengers to travel fast inside European borders without showing their personal documents.

- The freedom of movement within the EU, which is guaranteed by the Schengen agreement, is a basis for international railways - Reudiger Grube told the German daily Bild.

Grube stressed that if borders were closed, there was a possibility of the German railway company terminating direct lines to other member countries because they would not be sustainable.
