Public debt of Serbia up about EUR 2 billion in 2015

Serbia's public debt at the end of 2015 stood at EUR 24.8 billion, which is 75.5% of gross domestic product (GDP), the Finance Ministry has announced in a release.

Compared to the previous year, public debt grew about EUR 2 billion.

At the end of 2014, Serbia's public debt was at EUR 22.76 billion, that is, 70.4% of GDP, up from EUR 20.14 billion or 59.6% of GDP in 2013.

The public debt of Serbia, which totaled EUR 14.17 billion in late 2000, hit a record low of EUR 8.78 billion or 28.3% of GDP in 2008.

The Law on Budget System limits the share of public debt in GDP to 45%.
