Bluefin tuna weighing 200 kilograms sold in Tokyo for EUR 108,500

A sushi restaurant chain owner today bought the first bluefin tuna this year for EUR 108,500 at the famous Tsukiji market in Tokyo, the world's biggest fish market.
This year's price of JPY 14 million (EUR 108,500) for a giant tuna weighing about 200 kilograms was three times higher than in 2015, but still below the record set in 2013, when the price for the first tuna that year fetched JPY 155.4 million (EUR 1.2 million at the time).
The first bluefin tuna in 2015 was sold for JPY 4.51 million (EUR 31,350).
This year, the first tuna was bought by Kiyoshi Kimura, the owner of Sushi Zanmai restaurant chain. This bluefin tuna was caught early this morning near the city of Oma, in the north of Japan.
