As the daily Dnevnik reports, the Serbian government adopted Friday a draft of the new Law on Chambers of Commerce and then forwarded it to the Parliament, so we can expect MPs to state their opinion about this draft law soon. Working version of the text was drafted in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with Austrian and German chambers of commerce. According to Ratko Filipovic, the president of the Vojvodina Chamber of Commerce, this new law calls for complete transformation of the chamber system because the entire setting is brand new.

However, there is no doubt that the most important news for businessmen is that the membership in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce will be mandatory starting 2017.

– This mandatory membership has two objective. The first is to let the SCC really represent all economic entities in relations with the Government when creating a macroeconomic ambient, export and import policies, incentives, development strategies, etc. The other objective is to significantly reduce the costs of participation by expanding the foundations for financing the chamber system, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The president of the Vojvodina Chamber of Commerce has also confirmed that the membership fee will be the same for all.
