Contract with "Varteks" broken - procurements for "University Games" only on tender

Organizational committee of "University Games 2009" has broken the contract worth 5m EUR with company "Varteks" from Varaždin on sewing of 45,000 suits for students sportsmen.
In that way, the request of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia has been met. The Chamber asked from the Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica to declare the contract signed between company "Univerzijada Beograd 2009" and Croatian fashion company three and half months ago null and void, because there no tender had been announced before, which is against the Law on public procurements.
Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić who presided the meeting says that there were some initial problems that are not in the domain of exclusive responsibility of people who run "University Games".
- All works that have been done so far will go on tender. Of course, tenders that will be carried out will be transparent, in accordance with the Law on public procurements. As far as procurement from "Varteks" is concerned, the budget inspection is considering that case and it will make decisions in about 10 days and the Government will act in accordance with these decisions - said Đelić.
Organizational committee has dismissed executive manager Srđan Bošković and appointed Zoran Jovanović, former deputy of city secretary for sport of city of Belgrade, on that position.
