Law on trading shipping industry adopted

The Assembly of Serbia adopted the Law on trading in shipping industry. The law governs transport and approach to the market, legal status and ship status and real and legal relations at a ship, responsibility and limitation of responsibility for claims in interior sailing and nautical claims, contracts, sailing accidents, out-of the contract responsibility, ship halts, execution and security on a ship, governing law and sole responsibility of courts of the Republic of Serbia for disputes in trading ship industry with an element of abroad, acknowledgment and execution of court decisions in trading sailing as well as supervision.

The Law also introduces terms for licensing of shipping companies and terms for companies operating in agency business in water traffic.

The Law refers to transport of goods and passengers and will become effective eight days after the publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia (November 26, 2016), apart from article 19–22 of the Law which is becoming effective June 1, 2016.
