Privatization of Zelezara Smederevo will end in June-October 2016

Signing of memorandum of understanding, in China at the presence of the prime minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, between Hebei iron and steel and Zelezara Smederevo is the first step in the company privatization - Bojan Bojković, member of the Supervisory Board at Zelezara Smederevo and a member of the working group with a strategic partner says for Danas.

According to his words, at this moment, it is too early to speak about whether Hebei iron and steel will become a new owner of Zelezara and if it happens what percentage will be. Bojkovic did not want to comment speculations that the Chinese are the only one interested in tender with an explanation he cannot state on it during tender procedure.

- It is a fact that buyer for Zelezara Smederevo will be found at tender and that Chinese company, in case it wants to acquire a steel plant, will have to participate in the procedure with its offer. I expect privatization of Zelezara will end in June-October period next year – he outlined.

He added further agreement with HPK engineering which is managing Zelezara at the moment, will be defined in discussion between new strategic partner of the plant and that managerial tea.

Bojkovic outlined that Chinese company is second in size in the world in steel production and that it operates in production of copper and it has 125 000 people.
