They are world's top winemakers - Italy dethrones France

Wine production in third-ranked Spain this year dropped 4% from 2014, to 36.6 million hectoliters, AFP cited the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) as announcing in a release.

Top three winemakers this year are from Europe again, Agence France-Presse stressed and specified that wine production in Italy, France and Spain accounted for 48% of global production of "divine nectar".

By the way, this year's global wine production was up 2% on last year, to 276.5 million hectoliters.

It is expected that between 235.7 and 248.8 million hectoliters of wine will be drank this year, meaning that there will be no shortage, the French daily Le Monde reports.

The fourth largest winemaker in the world is the USA, which increased wine production in 2015 by 1% from the previous year, to 22.1 million hectoliters, followed by Argentine with 13.55 million hectoliters of wine produced this year, down 12% from 2014.

The biggest progress was made by Chile which ranks sixth with 12.8 million hectoliters of wine produced this year, up 23% from the last year.

Australia ranks seventh with 12 million hectoliters, followed by South African Republic with 11.3 million hectoliters.

China is the ninth with 11.17 million hl, although OIV assessed it was very hard to precisely determine the amount of wine this country produced.

France keeps the title of the the world's top manufacturer of rose wines with 7.6 million hl produced this year, and it is followed by Spain with 5.5 million, the USA with 3.5 million, and Italy with 2.5 million hl.
