"U.S. Steel" started overhaul and modernization of high furnace no.2 - investment worth 40m EUR

Overhaul and modernization of high furnace no. 2 are in progress in company "U.S. Steel Srbija" in Smederevo. More than 500 contractors participate in realization of these works.

Overhaul of this unit, which started last Friday, will last for 78 working days, and the value of the project is about 40m USD.

High furnace no. 2, which is constantly in the unit since November 27, 1987, will be modernized according to the latest world standards and computerized, which will enable its stable work within next 15 years and production of quality raw iron.

Machine works and installation of fireproof tiles have been entrusted to Slovakian company "Termostav-Mraz", while electric works are carried out by Italian company "BZ Engineering". Also, experts from Central Maintenance of "Goša" from Smederevska Palanka and other companies will participate in modernization of the high furnace no. 2.
