Company "Putevi Srbije" obtained equipment worth 1m EUR

“European Agency for Reconstruction has donated special vehicle for control of bridges and two laboratories for asphalt quality testing to Public Company “Putevi Srbije”. Total value of the donation is about 1m EUR”, said General Manager of Public Company "Putevi Srbije" Dragan Jocić. On the occasion of presentation of new equipment on the new Ostružnica bridge near Belgrade, Jocić said to the press that the vehicle with the basket for control of bridge structure would be used for control of 80 bridges, which should be rehabilitated within next few months.

- Of about 3,800 bridges in Serbia, more than 40% is in bad condition. In addition, damages on the roads, due to high temperatures, are worth 3 billion RSd. "Putevi Srbije" finance their projects exclusively from the toll incomes, which would reach about 210m EUR in 2007 – said he and added that the new equipment would contribute to improvement of traffic safety.

Acting chief of EAR Office to Serbia, Hristos Gofas, said that the new donation represented part of the program worth 100m EUR, which European Union set aside through EAR for rehabilitation and construction of infrastructure in Serbia.
