Russia's RZD International has begun the reconstruction of the third and the last northern stretch of Pan-European Corridor X, between Mala Krsna and Velika Plana.

The plan for this stretch 29.5 kilometers long is to renovate both upper and lower parts of the track, to do the reconstruction of eight switches and 18 road crossings, as well as to overhaul 12 small artificial facilities and a steel bridge 70 meters long, the company said in a release.

It should be noted that these works will be carried out in the period autumn-winter.

- Just like on all other stretches, RZD International will apply an advanced Russian technology to the construction of upper part of the track, which has an increased effect and makes it possible to significantly reduce the time it takes to finish the work - RZD International pointed out in the release.

Following the reconstruction of Mala Krsna-Velika Plana railroad, the speed at which trains operate will be increased from current 50 to 120 kilometers per hour, and the necessary level of traffic safety will be ensured.

Corridor X connects Salzburg and Salonika, running through Zagreb, Belgrade and Skopje.

A total length of all the stretches of Corridor X undergoing reconstruction by RZD International exceeds 112 kilometers.

This project, which is financed with the proceeds of the Russian state loan, is valued at about USD 84 milllion.
