Zelezara Smederevo expects USD 300 million investment from China?

Bojan Bojkovic, a member of the Supervisory Board of Zelezara Smederevo steelworks, said Saturday (10 October 2015) that he believed the partnership would be formed with the Chinese company Hebei Iron and Steel (HBIS Group).

- Judging by the negotiations and given that both our partner and we wish it, I am sure it will happen - Bojkovic told TV Pink.

As he explained, HBIS Group is the world's second largest steelworks, financially the healthiest, meaning it has huge money for investments.

Bojkovic noted that the HBIS Group was producing steel only in China and that it was planning to go global, adding that Zelezara Smederevo was honored to catch the attention of one such company that would bring USD 300 million in investment along.

As he stressed, this will help Zelezara Smederevo become profitable in a long run.

According to him, commissioning of the second blast furnace in that steel plant will result in the production of additional 75,000 tonnes of steel which will be sold in the market, accounting for one percent of GDP.
