The second high furnace in Zelezara Smederevo put into operation - Job for 200 people more underway

Member of the Supervisory Board, Bojan Bojkovic said for RTS that this is an important Zelezara and a big day for Serbia. According to him, putting the furnace into operation brings 75 thousand tons of steel, sales of USD 300 m and jobs for 200 people.

Vucic said negotiations with a strategic, Chinese partner, Hebei iron and steel group (HBIS) have been in progress and that it is the second or even the most powerful steel plant in the world.

High furnace 1 started operating in 1971 and it was shut down for the first time in 1987 for an overall overhaul. More modern high furnace 2 then started operating with a maximal monthly capacity of 95.000 tons.
