Metalfer takes over Sirmium steel - Production restart underway

The mayor of Sremska Mitrovica, Branislav Nedimovic, confirmed the information that Sirmium Steel smelter will be taken over by Metalfer and that more than 300 jobs were thus saved.

According to the words of the mayor from Sremska Mitrovica, final preparations have been nearing an end so that production process would start again.

He added that when it comes to the entire situation with Sirmium Steel, the most important thing is that more than 300 jobs were saved.

Local self-governance of the City of Sremska Mitrovica coordinated between Sirmium steel, EPS, Metlfer Srem- gas and all other important participants.

The mayor added that not only the town but the state as well needs not investors which in a week completely halt production.

All the staff in Sirmium steel, since September 14 this year, were sent to forced collective annual leave until “further notice”.
