Tender for Prokop announced, construction of 120,000 square meters, another €40m needed for completion of works

Railways of Serbia announced international tender for delivery of prequalification documentation for commercial-business center and continuation of construciton of Railway Station Beograd – centar, also known as Prokop station. This was decided on the basis of the March decision of the Administrative Board of former ŽTP Beograd. The decision was also backed by the Government of Serbia at the end of April 2005.

As it is written in the call, the development of commercial-business space provides opportunity for construction on top location in Belgrade on surface of 132,000 square meters. Open competition is open prior to July 11, 2005, and the candidates are to provide certificates on their legal status and experience in realization of similar projects, as well as to represent their financial potentials, i.e. three-year balances of condition and success.

Big investment works in Prokop started back in 1996, but due to shortage of money they were stopped four years later. In period between 2001 and today, only the most necessary works with the purpose of protection of facilities from dillapidation have been carried out in Prokop.

According to the project, the first phase includes construction of six platforms and 10 gages, two of which were put into operation for the needs of the city railways ”Beovoz”. Concrete plateau on surface of 36,000 square meters was built some seven meters above the platform. Once the complete surface is finished, concrete panels will be laid on surface of 45,000 square meters.

According to the project, there is possibility of construction of at least 120,000 square meters of office space. The estimate is that 170,000 square meters of commercial space can be settled in Beograd - Centar complex.

Construction of Prokop is even more significant when having in mind that it will condition relocation of main station Beograd. This ”relocation“ would free about 80,000 square meters on surface of the Sava amphitheater, which would be allotted to the investors in accordance with market conditions.

Besides commercial importance of Prokop station, after relocation of main station, so-called bottleneck in the functioning of railways through the capital would be eliminated.

On the occassion of visit to Prokop in March 2005, Republic Minister of Capital Investments, Velimir Ilić, reminded that 1.3 billion EUR had been invested in Belgrade’s railway junction and that another €40m was necessary for completion of works on Prokop.
