China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) is interested in building a new harbor on the left bank of the Danube, in the vicinity of Zemun-Borca bridge, the Ministry of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure of Serbia.

As it was announced on the Ministry's website, feasibility study for this project could be finished by end-September, and the Chinese company has already commenced geotechnical survey in order to get all the necessary economic indicators.

CHEC is the largest harbor construction company in China, and this would be its first project in Serbia.

CHEC officials talked on Monday with the representatives of the Serbian Ministry of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure about the project, environmental protection during its implementation, and the documentation required to acquire a building permit later.

Before this, the feasibility study must show that the port construction will pay off.

Chinese companies expressed interest in building a port on the Danube at the Summit of China and 16 CEE countries in Belgrade in December 2014.

It was then said that the infrastructure equipping of the port next to the Zemun-Borca bridge, which would be built by China's CRBC, would cost EUR 22 million.
