Serbia will have enough oil and sugar for its own needs as well as for export, the Agriculture Association of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC) said in a report.

There are about 170,000 hectares of sunflower fields this economic year (2015/2016), and they are expected to yield 422,000 tonnes of the crop and enable the production of 139,000 tonnes of sunflower oil.

People at SCC remind that about 76,000 tonnes are enough to satisfy domestic needs in the food industry, so it is estimated that about 63,000 tonnes will be exported.

Sunflower harvest in Banat, which began mid-August, indicates that the yield will range between 2 and 3 tonnes per hectare.

Sugar beet fields are much smaller in size this year than in 2014, covering a surface area of about 42,000 hectares, and they are expected to yield about 2 million tonnes of sugar beet and, thus, enable the production of about 340,000 tonnes of sugar.

The plan is to produce about 100,000 tonnes of sugar for domestic consumption and around 230,000 tonnes for export.
