(Jorgovanka Tabakovic) The National Bank of Serbia will continue close monitoring of business operations of Greek banks in Serbia and if necessary it will take steps so that it would prevent potential negative effects on our financial system , the central bank has announced today.

- We have not nor we are planning either to loose direct control over the flows related to Greek banks since all risks with respect to that have not been removed yet – the governor of NBS, Jorgovanka Tabakovic said.

She said in answering journalist’ questions that monitoring has been effective on daily bases and that it is early to stop these precautious measures.

NBS reminds that in Serbia, four banks with majority Greek capital with some 13% of total working capital of banking sector operate in Serbia and these are not branch offices of Greek banks but separate legal entities with paid shareholder capital in Serbia.

The central bank outlines that these banks as for now have indicator of liquidity above defined and it has not been noticed that mother companies withdraw funds.
