Chinese giant is considering Zelezara – Representatives of Hebei Iron and Steel group visited steel plant

Four months since managerial team of HPK Inzenjeringa came, Zelezara Smederevo is expecting profit. At the same time, the Working group the Government set up in late June has already received interest for privatization of Zelezara from several companies among which there is also the third steel producer in the world – Chinese Hebei Iron and Steel.

While new management, headed by American-Slovenian team, Goodish and Kamarash, are trying to recover Zelezara, Chinese giant is getting introduced with the production. Last time they visited the steel plant last week. HBIS grupa produces more than 47 million tons of steel annually and they are investing in new rolling mill in China. Experts claim it is a good sign that they will expand business.

Nikola Majinski from the Board for black metallurgy at SCC says the Chinese company counts on higher quantities and they fit into the fact that, apart from that investment, they buy another steel plant which has already been affirmed and which has already been operating at the market since it is a bit faster especially since Smedervo-based Zelezara is in a good shape when it comes to technical reliability.

Sasa Colic from ASNS Zelezara says the final objective of the process which started last year is privatization of Zelezara.

This trade union expects the process will finish in optimal deadline at mutual satisfaction of the government, the staff and company management.
