German supermarket chain Lidl has got a permit to build a facility on Palicki put Road in Subotica, and the work is expected to commence either in late 2015 or early 2016.
Lidl's arrival in Subotica was first announced back in 2012, when this company bought a land lot on Palicki put Road where it plans to open a supermarket on a surface area of 2,000 square meters. The investor was expected to kick off construction early this year, given that a building permit had already been issued. It is most likely that the citizens of Subotica will have to wait a bit longer for Lidl supermarket to open, at least by the end of this year or early 2016.
As stressed by Ljuben Hristov, assistant mayor and member of the City Council in charge of the economy, "Subotica was the first local self-government in Serbia to issue a building permit to Lidl, in a very short time, while the old Law on Planning and Construction was still in effect, thus showing both transparency and agility."
According to some earlier announcements, this market chain will open its facility in Subotica next to the future retail park of the Austrian company Quinterra that will include stores by various footwear and clothing brands such as Newyorker, C&A and Takko.
